I use this set to talk about possessions: "Do you have a bookshelf in your bedroom?" "I have a bookshelf." "I don't have a stereo." Once students are comfortable with the exchange, you can ask about other things they have, like toys, video games or comic books.
I like to work from broad to narrow with "have." I start with "have" for things you own but aren't holding right now, and only later narrow it down to what someone has in their hand.
Pair the vocabulary with one sentence pattern at a time. Each level builds on the one before.
Some children share a room or don't have much in it. Asking about a dream bedroom, or a bedroom in a picture, works just as well as asking about their own.
"What color is your blanket?" and "The clock is on the table" turn a simple noun set into practice with colors and prepositions.
Once students know the words, describing a room is a natural next step: "There's a bed. It's blue. There are two pillows."
Bedroom pairs well with the House page. Learn the rooms first, then zoom in on what's inside one of them.
Students draw their bedroom or a dream bedroom, then describe it to a partner, who tries to draw the same room without looking.
Students walk around asking "Do you have a bookshelf?" and collect names. Who has the most things in common?
Show a picture of a messy bedroom. Students say where things are: "The socks are under the bed."
Flashcards and the vocabulary sheet on day 1, word search on day 2, draw your room on day 3, then bingo or the board game to finish.
